Pre-requisite FAQ

Q. What are the software requirements to use xFusion?

A. xFusion requires Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0 or above (free download) to be present on the machine. Each database connector may require additional client software to be installed. Requirements for specific connectors are covered later in the FAQ.

Q. How can I check if Microsoft .NET Framework is already installed on the system?

A. Check by clicking on Start->Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs and searching for Microsoft .NET Framework.

Q. Does installing the .NET Framework cause any problems with currently installed applications?

A. The .NET Framework installation does not interfere with any existing applications.

Q. Where can I download the .NET Framework from?

A. The framework can be downloaded directly from Microsoft at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/technologyinfo/howtoget/ Alternatively, you can find it on our website or Fusion install CD. The installation image is packaged in just one file, dotnetfx.exe. After the download, click on this executable to run it. A wizard will guide you through the rest of the installation. Note that the file is 24M in size. Please plan your download time accordingly.

Q. What are the hardware requirements to install Fusion?

A.
  • Intel Pentium-compatible processor, 450 MHz (900 MHz recommended)
  • Microsoft windows Server 2003 / Windows 2000 Server/ Windows 2000 Professional/ Windows XP, or Windows NT 4.0 SP6 - 256 MB RAM or greater (512 MB recommended) - 800 MB or more free disk space
  • Mouse or compatible pointing device - Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.1 or later
  • Accessible CD-ROM drive (for installation only) or internet connection
These requirements are similar to that of Microsoft .NET Framework. If you have installed the Framework, then you will be able to run Fusion.

A. The easiest way to determine the version of MDAC is to right click on C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ado\msado15.dll, select Properties, and then consult the Version information. The version information has the format x.xx.yyyy.y, where x.xx is the version number. Additional tips for checking MDAC version can be found at in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 301202 at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;301202

Q. Where can I download the latest MDAC?

A. The latest MDAC is available at http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/mdac/default.aspx
